Donuts: J Dilla talking through music.

14 05 2008

Donuts is crazy. Like in “People” he says:
People! People the time has come…. my people! Hooold on!
Or in “Glazed” the sample says:
WAKE UP WORLD! WAKE UP WORLD! WAKE UP WORLD! YOU PIECE OF S**T I’M AFRAID! TIME’S RUNNING OUT!
Or in “Don’t Cry”
Lemme tell how my voice created an unbelievable baby! I can’t stand to see you cry! Bay-Bay! (His daughters?)
“Stop” claims that:
Hmmmmmmm you’re gonna wan’t me back, in your arms. You’re gonna need me! Is death real?
“Airworks” cries:
Owwwwwwwwwwwww. Oh No! Owwwwwwwwwwwww Together is where we Arrrrrrrrrrrre I don’t really care.
“Walkinonit” says
Broken into, broken endiiiing! Walking down the strip! Baby I won’t come back!
“Time: The Donut of the Heart” says
Okay okay, there comes a time. I looove you. The meaning of… me.
“Anti-Amercan Graffiti” tells you
My family my family is my historyyy. Crazy like the end end of the world all over again! Who’s gonna take the responsibility man? Just like the doctor said! Too much too soon!
And in the middle of “Workinonit” a vocal stab says:
Why me? Why me? Save me!!!
The “Donuts (Intro)” sample is called “When I Die”

Did you also notice metaphoars not in the samples?
Like “Donuts” is a full circle, the circle of life, the intro and outro blend perfectly well together.
The Donuts Outro is the first song and the intro is the last song, is this the intro to the afterlife? Or an introduction to a new age in hip-hop in general?

When I first heard this I didn’t listen carefully, but this morning I thought I’d revisit it. These aren’t coincidences. Rest In Peace to J Dilla, a true genius.

LOUDER!
